The boxes are beginning to fill with your belongings, you are spending hours upon hours looking at homes and you have sorted through countless paint samples. In short, you are preparing for a move and doing your best to get everything packed up before you head on to your new home. Unexperienced first time homeowners may believe that selling your home just involves clearing the space out and waiting for it to sell but more experienced homeowners will know you can be a little bit more proactive than that. Here are a few steps you can take to make the move-out easier, sell your house more quickly and help you keep everything in order.

1. If it Goes Together, Pack it Together

When you are packing make sure that whatever is going in the box, belongs in the box. Books go with books, DVD’s go with DVD’s and like goes with like otherwise you will end up with a very confusing unpacking experience. But if you pack and organize everything in boxes beforehand you will be able to save yourself quite a bit of time in the future and you will not have to worry about whether or not you forgot things at home when you move out.

2. Get Estimates

If you have ever wondered how much it costs to replace the rusty old furnace downstairs, now is a good time to do so. Not because we expect you to replace any of that old equipment. That could get rather expensive. But, that knowledge will give you the upper hand in negotiations and keep potential buyers from swindling you out of a couple thousand dollars.

3. Organize What’s Left

Tidying up the remaining artifacts in your home and making sure everything is organized will make the living space much more appealing to potential buyers. How you set up your home can either help them envision what life may be like in  your home or it can make them run for the hills (away from the mess). So be sure to keep all of your belongings clean and organized whenever potential buyers are coming to view the home. It will help your home sell much more quickly.
